The ONCONET-SUDOE Workshop on Innovative IT for healthcare, with the title “The patient journey: Information Technologies focused on the cancer patient”, was hosted at CNIO, Madrid on the 3rd and 4th of April 2019. This workshop was particularly timely in view of the tremendous impact that Information Technologies (IT) are achieving in healthcare systems and society. The meeting assembled internationally renowned speakers who shared and dissected current significant topics, new developments and scientific advancements related to IT applied to cancer patient’s care and related fields.
In particular, IT implementations applied to cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, palliative care and oncological patients experience were covered. In addition, the scientific programme included round tables with experts that debated and discussed the present challenges in the area and future perspectives.
The workshop created a platform for dynamic interactions among multidisciplinary professionals including bioinformaticians, biomedical researchers, IT for health developers, clinical investigators and healthcare professionals in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
The participation of over 100 professionals who are implicated in the management and care of cancer patients meant fruitful conversations; healthy debates and new projects came to life.
